Guided Forest Therapy Friday 5/24/24 virtual. Register for details & zoom link!

What is forest therapy?

Forest therapy is an outing in nature- a slow wander- an intentional noticing,

focused on remembering and restoring your relationship with the natural world.

Some people liken nature therapy to mindfulness or stress reduction. We focus strongly on your senses and your physical body (ie less in your head, more in your body and heart).

During an outing (which lasts ~2 hours), the guide will facilitate several invitations (suggested activities or practices) to support your connection with nature.

Forest therapy can be held anywhere in nature (ie not just in the forest)- typically outdoors- but even in an indoor space with plants and natural beings. The outing is not physically strenuous at all; the walk itself is slow and gentle, traveling typically less than a mile, sometimes we barely leave our seat!

A growing body of research shows nature & forest therapy can benefit your health and well-being by decreasing depression and anxiety, reducing psychological and physical pain, re-awakening engagement with your senses, easing stress and inviting relaxation and peace of mind.

At Anchorline Counseling, our commitment to your wellness extends beyond traditional therapy methods. We are here to support you with kindness, understanding, and resources tailored to meet your specific ask. Let's rebuild your relationship with nature, reduce your stress and improve your health.

Heather B Howell, MSW, MA

Heather has worked in the field of adult mental health for 30 years, and currently practices as a Clinical Social Worker at Yale Child Study Center.

She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Spanish from Skidmore College; her MSW from Southern CT State University and her MA in Organizational Psychology from University of New Haven.

Heather has been trained by the Association of Nature & Forest Therapy to become a certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide. She completed Wilderness First Aid + CPR/AED trainings through WildMed. She leads in person and zoom sessions, 1:1 or small group.

Heather fiercely believes that all levels of ability are welcome and at home in nature. She is known for a keen ability to guide nature therapy "outings" from a chair in your yard or at your living room window, viewing the trees, sensing the breeze, hearing the birds. Think you aren't healthy enough to get outdoors? Let's work together to bring nature to you.
